Dear Guests who first visit New Zealand with Working Holiday VISA,

Welcome to New Zealand and Thanks for choosing Newton Lodge Auckland as your first station. You must be nervous about what to do next after you were arrival NZ. But don’t worry, we are very happy to help you and there are some tips for you to get ready to your working holiday.

Get Ready for living

Phone Number: (OneNZ, Spark, 2 Degrees, Skinny etc.). If you are a heavy data user, post-pay (pay monthly) package would be a good deal. You can pick a free (OneNZ / 2Degrees) SIM card at reception. The post-pay/ pay-monthly package only available in shop, please bring your passport & e-VISA for it.

AT HOP Card (Paying Buses, Ferry in/around Auckland only).
Where to buy: Britomart Train station, AT retailers and Convenience store (One Stop Convenience, Quick Bites, Civic Convenience Store etc.). Find a shop nearby
Top up via mobile App available.

**UPDATE** Since the end of 2024, buses and trains have been equipped with PayWave machines, allowing you to use VISA, Mastercard, and Amex cards.

Local Bank Account (KIWI bank, ANZ, BNZ, ASB etc..). Mostly passport, proof of address, e-VISA copy are required, please see requirement on their website. Most of bank outside CBD is available for walk-in customer (Except ANZ).
About Proof of Address: We can issue the proof of staying letter for guests during their stay. Hostel address shows on the letter. IRD number document also can be a proof of address document.

**IMPORTANT**Update your address after you move. If you miss important mail delivered to a wrong address, you might get trouble and/or fines.

Get Ready for working

IRD number (Tax number in NZ). There are two way to get your IRD number. The best/fast way is applying online (no bank account required). If you cannot apply online (might showing “cannot verify your identity” etc.), you should go AA or NZ post office to submit document to apply your IRD number and It will take 1-2 weeks to get your number.

Find a job
(1) You can search jobs via job recruitment website like Seek.co.nz & Trademe.co.nz. They are the two very useful website to looking for a job in New Zealand.
(2) Visiting company website and applying for a job directly is a good way to searching for farm/seasonal jobs. Most company in NZ will release opportunity on their website.
(3) Walking in the shop and asking their manager is a good way to get a hospitality jobs, like cafes & restaurants.
