Position: Hostel Manager
Job type: Permanent full-time position
Wage: $29.96 per hour, plus $350/week accommodation allowance.
Hours of work: Minimum 40 hours/week
Shift duration: Between 10am and 5pm; 6 days/week; Work in the weekend required.

Join our team at Newton Lodge, a reputable and welcoming establishment committed to providing exceptional service to our guests. We are currently seeking a dedicated and proactive Hostel Manager to support our hostel’s daily operations and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for our guests.

As a Hostel Manager, you will play a vital role in the overall management of the hostel. You will need to supervising staff works, trainings, guest services, and operational management.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Hostel Manager Responsibilities:

  • Handle guest inquiries, requests, refund and complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Directing and overseeing reservation, manage reservations, check-ins, and check-outs.
  • Managing in daily operations, ensuring efficiency and high standards of service.
  • Supervise and support housekeeping and maintenance staff.
  • Ensure the hostel is listed and advertised correctly online, including search engines, hostel’s website, Third Party Travel&Accommodation Agent and etc.
  • Operating and maintaining Server, Domain, and Website and its context properly.
  • Analyze tourism and hotel/hostel industries market trends and conduct marketing and pricing adjustments.
  • Planning and preparing work schedules and assign staff to specific duties.
  • Guiding staff on handling challenging and complex customer service procedures.
  • Monitor inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Assist with financial tasks, including daily transaction reconciliation and reports.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Observing alcohol, health and other laws and regulations. Ensure compliance with safety and operational standard.
  • Coordinate with maintenance contractor and staff to address hostel maintenances.
  • Conducting interviews, hiring, training, evaluating, dismissing, and promoting staff, as well as resolving staff grievances.
  • Participate in staff training and development.

Requirements:

  • At least two years of work experience in the hostel/hotel industry supervisor position.
  • Bachelor Degree required.
  • NZ Driver full licence required.
  • Base IT knowledge on Network, Website, and Server/Domain maintenance. 
  • Excellent windows and MS office skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively
  • Proficiency in using a variety of online travel agencies platforms (e.g. Booking.com, Airbnb, Expedia, etc.), Property Management System and its related add-ons.
  • Bilingual skill is preferred.
  • Manager position requires must live and work on site.
